Methods Fair Resources

The Methods Fair is an annual one-day conference where researchers from The University of Manchester, our Methods North West partner institutes, and further afield, join together to present, discuss, and learn about methods.

The Methods Fair includes a keynote speaker, workshops, lightning talks, posters presentations and networking. Details on our latest Methods Fair can be found on the Methods Fair page.

Previous Programmes

You can see programmes from some of our previous years below. They include a list of workshops and conveners, as well as titles and abstracts for lightning talks and posters.

Guidance for Lightning Talks

The Lightning Talks are designed as conversation starters. Each presenter will have just five minutes to present their work - and you are of course welcome to give a briefer presentations. Try and focus your talk on a specific aspect of your research, and consider what context is relevant to explain this. Five minutes is not as long as you think!

While there is little time for questions within the sessions themselves, audience members will seek out presenters for fuller discussions during the Fair (often over lunch) and/or follow up with them separately (often via email).

Guidance for Poster Presentations

Posters are displayed throughout the Fair for people to view at their leisure. During the Poster Session, presenters will need to be at their poster to discuss and answer questions from attendees. This is a great time to make new connections and meet researchers from a wide range of disciplines.

Academic posters are printed on A3 and displayed on our poster boards. If you submit your poster by the deadline, we will print your poster for you. Please keep in mind legibility when it comes to font style and size, and make sure there is enough contrast between your text and background.
