Visual analytics

We are living in a world which faces a rapidly increasing amount of data to be dealt with on a daily basis. Consequently, research into the automated processing and analysis of data (e.g., data mining) has received much attention in recent years and justly so.

However, automated processing and analysis has its limitations in terms of the knowledge and insight that can be gained from their employment, particularly if problems are not well-defined or well-understood.

Visual Analytics is a method of combining human judgement with automated data processing and analysis algorithms designed to eliminate the problems associated with using algorithms on their own.

The presentation explains how Visual Analytics works, what it can do, and the continuing research into expanding its capabilities.
